The MTN Group has appointed Ahmad Farroukh as CEO of MTN Nigeria.

Farroukh, who is the former MD of Scancom Ghana and regional director of the Investcom`s operations in West Africa, takes over from COO Sifiso Dabengwa.

Dabengwa was deployed to Nigeria in August 2004 to head the operation on a medium-term contract, MTN says. In light of the group`s need to integrate 10 new operations, Dabengwa will now focus on his responsibility as MTN Group COO, it says.

Farroukh brings to MTN Nigeria more than a decade of experience in mobile telecoms strategy, finance and corporate development, says Phuthuma Nhleko, MTN Group president and CEO.

He gained his extensive telecoms experience through senior executive positions held with Investcom Holdings, he says.

Farroukh joined Investcom Holdings in 1995 as group financial controller and became MD of Scancom in 1999. Prior to joining Investcom, he worked for KPMG in New York, and for Deloitte and Touche, in Saudi Arabia.

He holds a master`s degree in business administration and accounting and is a certified public accountant.
