Cellular provider MTN`s MD Maanda Manyatshe is a pawn in the fight between the South African Post Office (SAPO) and Vision Design House, says a forensic auditor.
Manyatshe, who is in court today arguing for a final gag order against the Mail & Guardian, prevented the paper from publishing an expos'e on him last week.
Bart Henderson, CEO of the South African Institute of Corporate Fraud and Management, says Manyatshe is being used as a pawn in an arbitration case between SAPO and Vision. Henderson is an independent investigator.
"Something doesn`t smell right at all, and I want to know what it is."
Henderson says, because Manyatshe is attempting to get an order against the M&G publishing a story, his statements will be out in the open and his testimony can be used in the arbitration case.
"Who`s grinning from ear-to-ear with Manyatshe in the hot seat?" Henderson wonders
After Manyatshe left SAPO as CEO, 13 out of 15 contracts awarded by him were cancelled. Vision approached the Witwatersrand High Court to arbitrate the matter. The arbitration case has been postponed to November, but heads of agreement have been filed at the court.
Rumours of a criminal case of fraud laid against Vision by SAPO with the South African Police Services Commercial Unit are unsubstantiated, Henderson adds. He says he is unable to find a case number, let alone proof that charges have been laid.
"Someone is trying to paint a picture that doesn`t exist, but it makes people look much more guilty."
