Unified messaging revenue to double

Frost & Sullivan research indicates revenues in the unified messaging and communications market will experience a huge leap in the period between 2005 and 2012, says Zycko News.

Revenue will soar from the EUR613.3 million recorded in 2005 to a projected EUR1.54 billion six years from now, the firm predicts.

However, uptake has been stunted in some cases due to a lack of understanding about, and subsequently investment in, unified communications.

Secure IM could reduce CO2 emissions

New research shows that secure IM adoption by employees could save the earth from 14.2 billion pounds of carbon dioxide emissions, as they could work as efficiently while cutting down on long commutes, says Webitpr.com

Symon Blomfield, CEO of UK secure IM company Presence Networks, explains: "Simply by reducing travel by 96 miles per week, the average worker would save the planet from the effects of 4 257 pounds of CO2 a year."

This is the equivalent to the amount of carbon which can be neutralised by 207 fully grown trees annually, he says.

EC finances helicopter-based SMS network

The European Commission will finance the Mobile Autonomous Reactive Information System for Urgency Situations (Marius), a project that will allow emergency workers to send SMS via a helicopter equipped with a mini-mobile network, reports Rotorhub.

Marius is aimed at developing a pre-operational autonomous command post that can be deployed quickly to manage crises.

The project will involve the implementation of an airborne segment equipped with EO/IT sensor, GSM detection and location sensor SMS broadcast capability, a data link to the ground station and a radio system.
