Barcelona, 23 Mar 2007

Samsung Electronics Co, Ltd, a leading provider of mobile phones and telecom systems, is proud to announce it has won the GSM Association's Global Mobile Award for Best GSM Mobile Handset with its Ultra Edition 12.9 (D900).

The award, announced at a ceremony at the 3GSM World Congress last night, recognises excellence in handset design and innovation.

Samsung Ultra Edition 12.9 (D900) - the world's slimmest, best slider

Samsung's Ultra Edition 12.9 (D900) offers the latest in multimedia technology with premium slide-up design for business professionals. The 13mm slide-up is the thinnest slider ever designed.

It also comes with a powerful 3.13-megapixel camera. The D900 also includes business features such as document viewer, TV-output function, and also supports Bluetooth stereo headset function to enhance users' multimedia experience.

The D900 also boasts a large, vivid 262 000-colour screen, ideal for watching streaming videos or viewing the phone's photo book and an external microSDTM slot allows for additional storage.

Accepting the award, Dohwan Choi, Executive Vice-President of Samsung's Telecommunications Network Business, commented: "I'm delighted and honoured to receive this award for Best Handset for the D900 - an amazing accolade from the GSMA. Samsung is committed to delivering the best possible user experience in the most attractive design. We will expand our portfolio of GSM models and continue to release one-of-a-kind products like Ultra Edition 12.9 (D900)."

Rob Conway, CEO of the GSM Association, said: "Achieving success in the global mobile industry requires a combination of innovation, expertise, tenacity and confidence - but the key ingredient is a knowledge of what the market needs to move forward the new mobile era. The 2007 winners are recognised as having turned that knowledge into practical services and solutions that capture mobile users' needs. My congratulations on behalf of the GSMA - we wish you every continued success."

The 2007 awards judges described Samsung's D900 as a "design breakthrough - fun, cool, a great package providing all the fundamentals - an impressive offering".
