Mobile VOIP network unveiled

XG Technology, a wireless communications start-up, will launch its mobile VOIP service in November, and similar networks in six to eight other areas shortly thereafter, reports Teleclick.

XG Technology says its mobile VOIP product line will combine traditional WiFi with its own long-range wireless broadband technology, xMax.

Similar in some ways to WiMax, the long-range technology backed by Intel, xMax is designed to piggyback on lower frequencies, such as those used by radio signals, to achieve a longer-range, more efficient network coverage.

Tesco enters VOIP market

Supermarket chain Tesco has launched a new IP telephony service aimed at consumers and is set to charge prices in a similar way to normal landline connections, reports Telappliant.

Price plans for the service allow unlimited UK-wide calls for £5 per month, while a month's worth of international calls will cost £8.50.

While the system will be recognisable to British householders who pay their bills by landline, there are other consumer options that require no monthly payments for reduced calls worldwide.

VOIP offered in Indonesia

Sistelindo, a local service provider for AT&T Global, will work with Digitalk to provide VOIP services throughout Indonesia, reports DevelopingTelecoms.

Sistelindo will set up the Digitalk Multiservice Platform (MSP) to provide broadband telephony services to both residential and business subscribers.

The service will be delivered as part of the company's leased line and broadband (ADSL) packages and is designed to offer customers a more cost-effective, high-quality voice communications tool for both national and international services.
