Vodacom network falters

The cause of the problems on Vodacom's network has yet to be determined, says Vodacom spokesman Dot Field, but the network was down for some time yesterday.

This was in response to speculation that the network failure could have been caused by power problems, following Eskom's resumption of load-shedding.

Vodacom's network experienced sporadic difficulties across the country yesterday afternoon for approximately one hour, says Field.

"The cause has yet to be determined. Our backup system came into effect," she says.

Vodacom previously said load-shedding would not impact its service levels, as the mobile operator has battery backup for its base stations that can last up to eight hours.
