California prohibits cellphone for train operators

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) temporarily prohibited all railroad workers, including railroad engineers, brakement, conductors, and rail transit vehicle operators, from using commercial mobile radio services and devices while on duty, says eFlux Media.

This comes after a train collision that killed 25 people and injured over 130, which called for new rules to improve railroad safety.

CPUC president Michael Peevey says: "Because of the possible danger to passengers, the general public, and the railroad workers themselves, prohibiting the personal use of cellular devices is necessary and reasonable."

Cellular networks down

All five of the cellular networks of Pakistan remained disrupted for the second consecutive day as consumers complained of dropped calls and static during calls, reports Daily Times.

The networks were blocked following a bomb blast in Islamabad.

It's expected that the network problems will be resolved within the next few days.

Cellular South conducts poll

Cellular South, a wireless solutions provider, is partnering with the University of Mississippi to sponsor a poll of student opinions on the upcoming 2008 elections in conjunction with the presidential debate in Oxford next week, states Market Watch.

Students will be able to vote using HTC Touch smart phones powered by Cellular South's high-speed 3G wireless data network.

The 10-question poll was designed by Southern Research Group for Cellular South and Ole Miss to gauge Mississippi college student perspectives on issues in the 2008 presidential race.
