Marcatel acquires AldeaVision

Marcatel has acquired AldeaVision Solutions, says News Wire.

The Mexican telecommunications carrier hopes to take advantage of new market opportunities in the telecommunications industry using the Canadian broadcaster.

Immediate plans for the development of AldeaVision's video network include increasing its bandwidth in Mexico in order to support the high capacity demand of new technologies like high definition TV.

Agito customer wins InfoWorld100 award

Agito Networks' customer, Anthony Marano Company, has won an InfoWorld 100 Award from IDG's InfoWorld, states Market Watch.

The company was awarded for its enterprise fixed mobile convergence project, which is powered by Agito Networks' RoamAnywhere Mobility Router.

Every year, the InfoWorld 100 Awards celebrate 100 IT organisations that have implemented and integrated technologies in innovative ways in pursuit of concrete business goals.

Asia bets on convergence

Asian mobile industry leaders are reacting differently to weakening global economic growth, with Chinese telecom giants China Mobile and China Unicom cautiously optimistic about their prospects, while India's Bharti Airtel is confident that telecommunications will help lead the country's growth, says Market Watch.

But they seem to agree that mobile broadband and convergence of Internet and media services on cellphones would provide new opportunities for growth.

Manoj Kohli, chief executive of Bharti Airtel, said at the GSMA Mobile Asia Congress in Macau, he expected the telecoms industry to be an "engine of growth" for the Indian economy. "The government of India is also promoting broadband in a big way, and you'll see the broadband revolution following the mobile revolution," Kohli said.
