Verizon leaves VOIP

Verizon's Voicewing VOIP service will come to an end on 31 March, says The Inquirer.

Verizon is reportedly eyeing MID-type solutions, such as the newly-announced 'Hub', and services, over fibre optic connections, as part of its next-generation network.

In a similar vein, AT&T also stopped signing people on to its CallVantage service. Deltathree, the company that provides the back-end to Voicewing's VOIP service, has been tanking in the stock exchange for a while, and is currently trading at $0.04 (R0.41).

AT&T shines in Q4

New features for the AT&T Telepresence Solution and the acquisition of WiFi service provider Wayport, capped a successful fourth quarter 2008 for AT&T Business Solutions (ABS), according to PR News Wire.

ABS also recorded significant sales wins in the fourth quarter, highlighted by a 10-year, $600 million (R6.1 billion) agreement for network services with the state of Tennessee and a five-year contract with the state of Georgia, worth a projected $346 million (R3.5 billion), to provide managed voice and data services across state government agencies.

The company is also acquiring Centennial Communications, a regional provider of wireless and wired communications services based in New Jersey.
