MIRS doubts WiMax model
Israeli MIRS Communications, which is owned by Motorola, is considering abandoning WiMax in favour of a UMTS 3G network, writes Globes Online.
Some time ago, Motorola Israel president and MIRS chairman Elisha Yanai told Globes Online that he doubted the viability of the WiMax model.
During a meeting between MIRS executives and officials from the Ministry of Communications a few weeks ago, the company said it was seriously considering switching to a 3G UMTS network. It cited the ministry's inability to publish a WiMax policy on time and subsequent delays as reasons to doubt the feasibility of a WiMax network in Israel.
Asus' new feature-rich PDA phone
Though it isn't one of the more prominent makers of PDA phones, Asus has consistently provided a stream of products which are up to date with other market offerings, reports CNet Asia.
Keeping up with the trend of high-end touchscreen devices with larger screens, the Taiwanese manufacturer has unveiled the P835 handheld which comes with a 3.5-inch WVGA (800 x 480-pixel) display.
Aside from a generous display, the P835 also comes with a host of features including HSDPA and HSUPA, 4GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot and GPS for satellite navigation.
iPhone tops mobile traffic stats
In its first detailed look at Web market share for cellphones, a research firm has found that Apple's iPhone represents a staggering 66.6% of mobile traffic while its competitors have only just gained a foothold, says Apple Insider.
Net Applications' February results show the iPhone operating system managing over nine times the usage of its next smartphone competitor, Windows Mobile, which had just 6.9% of the traffic measured across tens of thousands of sites.
Other smartphone platforms haven't fared any better, according to the metrics.
