Comcast to resell WiMax services

Cable giant Comcast apparently plans to include WiMax mobile broadband in its service offerings, starting with Portland, Oregon, according to Digital Trends.

According to The Oregonian, the cable company is eyeing a mid-year launch for the service, and will likely bundle it in with its existing cable television, Internet, voice, and mobile services.

In theory, that could make Comcast's service offering in the Portland area a "quintuple play", encompassing up to five consumer services in one package, and on one bill.

Kyocera granted authorisation

Kyocera 's iBurst 3.9G Mobile Broadband Wireless Access (MBWA) system has received a Grant of Equipment Authorisation for its iBurst user terminals by the American Telecommunications Certification Body, which operates under the Federal Communications Commission, MarketWatch reports.

Kyocera's iBurst is classified as 3.9G equipment due to its high spectrum efficiency with single spectrum reuse factor, and provides three times more spectrum efficiency than the existing HSDPA system.

The TDD-TDMA system which uses SDMA technology is capable of 32Mbps total throughput per base station (24Mbps downlink with 8Mbps uplink), within only 5MHz bandwidth, making it small enough to operate in the GSM frequency band.

Cellphones to get live games

It's on the airwaves that certain AT&T and Verizon Wireless phones can pick up and show live NCAA basketball tournament games this season, reports Associated Press.

It's the first time the live games will be available through AT&T, which launched live mobile TV service last May through Qualcomm's MediaFLO service.

AT&T subscribers with certain phones will be able to view all 63 NCAA tournament games live, the phone company says.
