Sprint plans 3G wireless device

Sprint has confirmed plans to introduce a new mobile 3G wireless device in June, reports TG Daily.

The Novatel Wireless MiFi 2200 will allow users to connect to the Internet by bridging a variety of WiFi-enabled units, including laptops and MP3 players.

"You can hold the MiFi 2200 in the palm of your hand and wirelessly connect your laptop, MP3 player and gaming device to the Internet all at once," explained Sprint spokesperson Steve Elfman.

Cisco, Clearwire partner for WiMax

Clearwire and Cisco moved to strengthen their partnership in an alliance that calls for Cisco to become Clearwire's core provider of WiMax infrastructure, according to InformationWeek.

In addition, Cisco will build a line of WiMax devices for the small office and home office market, the companies said in an announcement.

Clearwire has deployed its wide area wireless WiMax technology in two urban areas - Baltimore and Portland, Oregon - and plans to roll out the technology in more US cities by the end of the year.

Verizon sells HP

Verizon Wireless, the US mobile phone carrier, will begin selling netbook computers made by HP, intensifying competition with AT&T for sales of Internet services, according to Bloomberg.

The HP Mini will cost $199 after a $50 mail-in rebate with a two-year mobile Internet plan, Verizon Wireless said in an e-mailed statement. It will be available on 17 May.

Netbooks, which perform basic functions such as Web browsing, will provide a new source of revenue for Verizon as US mobile phone growth slows.
