Bruce Bassett is a Chair of Science at the WITS MIND Institute, Distinguished Professor of Computer Science at Wits University and Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Cape Town. Formerly he was the head of data science at SARAO working on the MeerKAT and SKA radio telescope arrays. Originally a cosmologist, Bruce's research has focused on the theory of artificial intelligence and Bayesian methods and applications to fundamental science, natural language and health since 2013. Bruce has co-founded several AI-related startups and has consulted locally and internationally with governments and industry.
