Dr Vuma Magaqa has been the Acting CIO for the Department of Health in KwaZulu-Natal since 2000. Dr Magaqa is also a member of the Ministerial Advisory Committee in Digital Health for the national department of health. Magaqa got his PhD in Information Systems from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and his dissertation topic was: The user-friendliness of a hospital information system using telemedicine in a traditional personnel culture at tertiary Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. Dr Magaqa has also received numerous awards for his work on the Electronic Intensive Care Unit (eICU) Project between Greys Regional hospital and Madadeni District hospitals.
