Although attackers and their tricks of the trade are constantly evolving, one thing remains the same, and that is retailers are continually in their cross-hairs. This is such a widespread issue that practically every report on cyber security over the past few years lists retailers as a prime target for cyber criminals.

Research reveals one in three retailers is currently losing revenue due to cyber attacks, with 16% of companies experiencing more than US$1 million in losses. Moreover, only 52% of retailers feel their security infrastructure is up to date and able to withstand the latest threats. This, along with the sheer volume of cyber attacks that happen every day, means it is critical for retailers to step up their security efforts.

ITWeb's Security Summit, which is taking place from 25 to 28 August as a virtual event, will provide those charged with protecting retail operations from cyber threats, with all the information they need to get up to speed on the latest risks and what to do about them, by listening to experts and peers in other industries.

Several top professionals will be presenting at the event, including Prof Ernest Ketcha Ngassam, GM: Information Security Architecture & Technical Excellence at MTN, who will explain how AI, machine learning and automation can be used to enhance cyber security.

In addition, Robin Barnwell, head: Security Strategy Enablement at Standard Bank, and Sandro Bucchianeri, group CSO at ABSA, will talk about how to address the security skills shortage in SA. Next, Henry Denner, IT security officer at the Gautrain Management Agency, will answer the crucial question relating to offensive security, which is do we need to fight back?

Moreover, delegates will be able to enjoy a panel discussion, featuring representatives from SABRIC, the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies and the National Prosecuting Authority of South Africa on how to encourage more local collaboration in threat intelligence.

As this year's event is virtual, there is no need to miss any sessions, as these will be available on demand, online. In addition, a conference pass entitles attendees to access all presentations, workshops, panel discussions, breakout sessions and product demonstrations, plus visit the virtual exhibition of over 30 booths.
