Macrocomm iHealth – CRiS Care Platform

Digital transformation – the key to South Africa’s healthcare challenges.

Johannesburg, 01 Sep 2020

2020 has been a year of challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced us into a new reality that demands thinking and acting in innovative ways, affecting not only how we operate professionally and personally, but also on the skillset required in this new environment. For many businesses, organisations and employees, the transition has been difficult.

The required shift in how we conduct business has translated into an increase in investment into technology with a focus on digitisation. It is now more critical than ever that we employ innovative technology to bring about smarter ways of working and reduced inefficiencies in current processes.

This is especially relevant in the healthcare sector as technological innovations become a key factor in managing additional pressures due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In an era where information is power and digitisation is king, Macrocomm iHealth has been partnering with leading global suppliers and investing in technology that aims to revolutionise the way we manage and utilise medical information. The Electronic Health Record (EHR) is a key component of Medical Informatics. Macrocomm iHealth Electronic Health Data platform based on a clinical workbench (CRiS Care), enables the recording of patient demographics, progress notes, problems, medications, vital signs, past medical history, immunisations, laboratory data and radiology reports. Included in this record, the EHR has the ability to generate a complete record of a clinical patient encounter as well as supporting other care-related activities directly or indirectly, including evidence-based decision support, quality management and outcomes reporting.

The Macrocomm iHealth platform offers a user-friendly solution that integrates with existing architecture and services, thereby ensuring interoperability between third-party systems, to provide the following benefits:

Seamless access: The patient clinical notes (medical record) are immediately available to all staff, anywhere.

Usability: An intuitive interface that anticipates the needs of medical practitioners and facilitates their tasks using technology.

Quality clinical documentation: Accurate, real-time clinical documentation based on an efficient and user-friendly clinical workbench.

Beyond just an information management platform, CRiS Care offers a holistic and fully integrated system, which can track medical records and the patient journey from start to end and maintains the record for future treatment. This level of integrated data analytics has never before been seen in South Africa and we are proud to be facilitating the innovation towards paperless medical consultation and telehealth offerings, one of the critical needs during this time.

The advanced data analytics provided by the platform means that we can have smart integration of medical information which feeds into various aspects of the medical value chain, from diagnosis to dispensary to delivery.

CRiS Care has been developed by Dr Yuri Naidoo, a specialist clinical physician and current Managing Director of Macrocomm iHealth. It is the first platform which is based on a clinical work bench. A platform developed by a clinician for the medical profession ensures that it is a practical, updated system aligned to World Health Organisation standards and international health protocols.

“In a country where we cannot afford medical litigation, the CRiS Care platform serves as a medical safety net for doctors and patients, not to second-guess them but to support medical findings and offer diagnosis and treatment plans aligned to medical global best practice,” said Dr Naidoo

In addition to our CRiS Care platform, Macrocomm iHealth has developed a complete suite of healthcare technologies and IOT solutions to effectively manage some of the challenges faced by this sector. Some of these include the following:

A “Clinic in a Box”, which allows frontline clinical personnel to measure patient triage information, which is auto populated into the patients’ CRiS Care medical file via an IOT hub. This saves time and alleviates human capturing errors.

Cost-effective patient, medical equipment and asset tracking and monitoring solutions via our IOT suite of devices and platform. This solution includes the tracking and management of linen in a hospital.

“Access to an effective and efficient healthcare system is paramount in a country like South Africa. We believe that digitisation and technology can play a vital role in achieving this goal,” said Sivi Moodley, Group CEO, Macrocomm.

Macrocomm recognises challenges faced by the existing healthcare system due to the COVID-19 pandemic and has developed a COVID-19 clinical documentation tool. This doubles as a data capture form and is based on the WHO reference reporting dataset. As part of Macrocomm iHealth’s corporate social responsibility strategy and providing a solution that will benefit South Africa as a whole, we are offering the COVID-19 documentation tool free to South African medical practitioners. Registered healthcare professionals can request access to this platform by sending an e-mail to info@macrocomm.co.za or registering on the Macrocomm iHealth Web site: www.macrocomm.co.za

Macrocomm is a level one B-BBEE provider, invested in the offering of Smart IOT solutions.
