Pinnacle, one of southern Africa’s largest ICT distributors, recently celebrated a milestone achievement of 30 years in the ICT industry.

Surprisingly, the initial company concept was hatched around a barbecue fire by the founding members and Pinnacle Micro was officially registered on 23 February 1993, opening offices in both Midrand and Cape Town.

By 1994, the company was in full swing, launching its very own in-house brand, Proline. Proline’s product range was specifically designed for the harsh temperatures and dusty conditions of Africa and, over the years, Proline has become well known in the South African market as a manufacturer of high-quality yet affordable monitors, PCs, notebooks and all-in-one (AIO) devices, with an extensive focus on the education sector.

The company expanded significantly in 2002 when it opened its branches in Nelspruit, Bloemfontein, Durban and Namibia, which are still operating today. Pinnacle has created some wonderful memories throughout its 30 years, which include hosting 36 customers in France at the 2007 Rugby World Cup, Proline sponsoring one of South Africa’s most popular series – Egoli, and in 2014, Pinnacle's goal of empowering the youth became a reality with the official launch of the company's leadership programme.

In 2016, Pinnacle officially rebranded to the company you see today, with a focus on delivering the exceptional in everything they do. “Like many businesses, Pinnacle has had a number of achievements since its inception, but the growth curve in revenue has to be highlighted. From R300 million in 2002 to R6.5 billion in 2022 is nothing short of exceptional! Transforming into a value-added distribution business in the enterprise space has also been something the team is incredibly proud of and our ongoing digital transformation journey over the past four years has certainly kept us on our toes,” said Tim Humphreys-Davies, CEO at Pinnacle.

Thirty years in the IT industry is a milestone not many companies reach, but according to Humphreys-Davies, the commitment to constantly growing and improving their offering has been fundamental in not only Pinnacle’s company culture, but to its success. “One crucial factor that can never be overlooked and probably the biggest reason Pinnacle has reached the tender age of 30 is the quality of staff we are fortunate enough to have working alongside us. There is nothing I love more as the CEO of a company than seeing our staff grow and succeed. Some of my fondest memories include handing out awards during our monthly staff meetings or our annual sales conference, seeing the delight and recognition of success is so rewarding!

“I’d like to thank both our staff and our resellers for the continued support they have shown Pinnacle. We would not be where we are today without them. Here is to the next 30 years.”
