The annual Vision 2030 Awards have announced the 2018 finalists!
The awards recognise the achievements and success stories of organisations, enterprises and individuals that are actively demonstrating alignment to the government's Nine-Point Plan to boost economic growth and achieve the milestones set by the National Development Plan (NDP).
The overwhelming number of nominations for the various categories of the awards casts a positive glow on the future of South Africa, and showcases the commitment of both the public and private sector to the NDP.
Says Dineo Molefe, MD at T-Systems South Africa: "We are honoured to be selected as a finalist for an award that is focused on building an economically stronger and inclusive South Africa, while making a difference in individual's lives. We are passionate about improving people's lives and supporting small businesses that drive transformation. Our Nation Building Initiative is aligned with the National Development Plan and we focus on empowering people and businesses through sustainable projects that promote skills development, job creation, education and entrepreneurship for small, black-owned businesses. This nomination validates that we are making a difference and living up to our motto of 'In South Africa, for South Africa'."
With categories such as the Education Award sponsored by the Human Resource Development Council, Infrastructure Development Award, SMME Award and the Driver For Change Award, the Vision 2030 Awards are all-encompassing when it comes to recognising the best of the best when it comes to championing the National Development Plan.
Leading by example, the winners showcased by the awards will inspire their sector peers and stakeholders nationwide to pledge commitment to the NDP, not in words alone, but in actions that move the nation forward.
T-Systems South Africa has several initiatives that support the National Development Plan. Some examples include the company's ICT Academy, which forms an integral part of T-Systems' learnership programme. The Academy was formed 15 years ago and focuses on addressing the skills shortage and gender inequality within the South African ICT industry.
Secondly, the T-Systems internship programme has been operating for over 13 years. To date, it has over 700 interns who have successfully completed the programme and have gone on to find permanent employment in various sectors in the country. The aim of this programme is to enable employment through work experience.
Lastly the company's Hazyview Digital Learning Centre, in Mpumalanga, which has created an ecosystem for skills development that has resulted in employment opportunities within the community. A milestone is the recent opening of a service desk that will initially handle T-Systems' Level 1 service issues internally, creating jobs for rural locals, with the view to expanding this service to bigger than just T-Systems.
The awards and the accompanying Vision 2030 Summit will draw together a host of business and government leaders to have crucial representation from all key decision-makers, because it is only through extensive public-private partnerships, T-Systems believes, that South Africa, by 2030, will have become the country envisioned by the National Development Plan.
"The Vision 2030 Awards and Summit help connect business and government by identifying and sharing best practices of leading companies and organisations that have implemented successful development and investment projects and can clearly demonstrate success with measurable returns to stakeholders in relation to projects aligned to the NDP," says Ryland Fisher, Editorial Director at Topco Media.
The winners will be announced and celebrated today (21 June 2018) at Emperors Palace, Ekurhuleni.
