South African entrepreneurship is alive and well

New tech start-up gets a powerhouse partner.

Johannesburg, 30 Aug 2012

Less than two months after the launch of the new tech start-up Virtual iD, the company has announced that it will be selling 30% of its shares to the leading tech-solution company, ITR Technology.

Virtual iD has been extensively covered by local media since its launch in July earlier this year. This new start-up is a virtual identification system that aims to make paperwork a thing of the past. It offers a service to consumers to simplify their lives and make management of personal information an easy process.

"We had a phenomenal two months and have received numerous offers from investors and partners. It was never our plan to sell so early, but we didn't think twice when ITR Technology approached us. Having such a well-connected partner will definitely speed up our success," says Marnus Broodryk, Managing Director of Virtual iD.

ITR Technology is a dynamic company with well-established partners across the world. It offers leading tech solutions and maintains a large client base across the African continent and abroad.

"We took the opportunity to become part of Virtual iD after realising the potential of this much-needed solution. We believe that Virtual iD is not only a local solution, but carries international merit, too," says Abri van Tonder, Managing Director of ITR Technology.

Virtual iD is dependent on both service providers and consumers to make the application a success. Although the registration process is currently only open to consumers, service providers have shown great interest in the system and Virtual iD is in the process of integrating with numerous back-end systems.

ITR Technology plans to utilise its current client base and business relationships to further enhance Virtual iD to cater for an even wider range of service providers across the world and to ensure a successful rollout in South Africa.

"Our integration partners have already contributed immensely to what we have planned and various organisations have invited us for workshops due to our market reach," says Van Tonder.

Despite the growth of the digital landscape in recent years, the vast majority of service providers still make use of antiquated technology, incapable of delivering the type of rapid, hassle-free customer service experience that today's consumers demand. Virtual iD believes that it is about to change this forever, and Van Tonder agrees: "I am yet to meet a person who enjoys standing in queues, a person who enjoys wasting time. Virtual iD is a great, solid solution, locally developed, and we are ready to take it to the next level."

To sign up for the Virtual iD service, simply head to www.virtualid.co.za and fill in your details. Registration is free, and a few prizes are up for grabs, of which one is a 40-inch Sony Bravia LCD TV.
