Duxbury launches 2007 season of Formula One competition

Johannesburg, 12 Mar 2007

Duxbury Networking has announced commencement of its 2007 Grand Prix Prediction competition, this year offering winners a range of new prizes and a grand prize of a Lenovo Thinkpad T60 notebook and a Jacques Lemans F1 branded watch.

With last year's competition garnering a staggering 14 210 entries throughout the year, the competition has a loyal following. Last year's sponsors, namely Netgear, RedBull Racing and CRN as media partner have once again given their commitment to providing prizes and exposure of the competition.

Additionally, newcomer to the Grand Prix Prediction Competition sponsorship, Lenovo has come on board with a range of awesome prizes provided by its distributor, Tri Continental Distribution SA.

"With the following for Formula One growing massively each year and motor sport getting more airtime in mass media than ever before, we believe that this year's competition (the fourth consecutive year it has been run) will benefit from more entries than any other previous year," says Duxbury managing director, Graham Duxbury.

Duxbury, himself a past multiple South African champion, comments that by all accounts, this year's Formula One calendar proves to be one of the most exciting yet.

"For starters, rule-makers have stepped in with a raft of new cost-saving regulations designed to encourage more competitive, interesting racing.

"For the first time, Formula One engines will not be governed by the laws of physics, but by a rev limit - 19 000rpm. Around 2 000rpm lower than the front running engines of last year, it will definitely level the playing fields in terms of performance.

"The tyre wars are also over with Bridgestone becoming sole supplier," he says. "These technical changes, along with a shake-up with regards to teams and drivers, will add an interesting new dynamic to the competition."

For any Formula One enthusiast, entering the competition couldn't be simpler. "Entrance is free and the only requirement is that the player registers on our Web site. Success in each leg of the competition (which follows the Formula One calendar) draws on the entrant's predictions for each upcoming race," he explains.

"Essentially, entries for each race close on midnight on the Friday prior to each race's qualifying session and players simply enter their predictions on the Duxbury Networking F1 site, namely www.duxbury.co.za/formulaone.

"Entrants also benefit from my own race preview, which is e-mailed to all registered players on the Thursday before the race. Sometimes these predictions help and other times, they truly throw a spanner in the works," he chuckles.

Once the results are in, Duxbury says players' predictions are tallied up and the eight players with the most accurate predictions are rewarded with prizes. "The prizes vary from RedBull Racing scaled replica steering wheels, to Toro Rosso caps and other merchandise," he says.

After each race, players are entered onto a leader board, which reflects their overall standings with regards to the grand prize which is worth more than R30 000.

Duxbury says the competition is a must for any Formula One enthusiast and because entry is so simple, most avid followers of motor sport would be crazy not to participate. "Motor sport enthusiasts are generally quite outspoken and pride themselves on having strong opinions. This competition offers the opportunity for them to see how good they are as followers," he says.

"Our Web site for 2007 has already launched and the first race commences on 18 March. I urge all enthusiasts and avid players to register and play, since this year promises to have a handful of wildcards and unexpected results," he concludes.
