Citrix, MS expand partnership

Johannesburg, 12 Aug 2009

Citrix and Microsoft are attempting to simplify desktop computing by extending their desktop virtualisation partnership, according to the dedicated Citrix division at SA software distributor Workgroup.

“This integration will enable enterprise customers to manage all of their Windows desktop and applications from a common platform to deliver a consistent user experience to any device, anywhere,” says Matthew Porter, product manager, Citrix at Workgroup.

Enterprise IT organisations, notes Porter, will be able to manage both distributed and centrally hosted applications using Citrix XenApp and System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM).

“XenApp will also extend Microsoft Application Virtualisation (App-V) to enable self-service delivery of applications on any device using Receiver and Citrix Dazzle,” he adds.

Citrix, according to Porter, also plans to extend the integration of XenDesktop with the new Microsoft VDI Suite licences, to improve the companies' joint virtual desktop infrastructure solution.

Citrix at Workgroup says together the companies will enable IT departments to leverage their existing SCCM investments to publish, manage and report on both XenApp and App-V applications.
