IP conference phone arrives

IP hardware solutions distributor, Even Flow Distribution, has brought a new solution from snom to SA.

Adrian Bush, MD of Even Flow, says snom's SIP four-way conference phone, the MeetingPoint, features open standard technology and can integrate within any IP-based PBX solution.

“The MeetingPoint can handle multiple SIP accounts and integrates with Microsoft's Office Communications Server (OCS), offering multiple registries on an OCS server as well as SIP PBX, which is key to running a conference environment,” he adds.

With the MeetingPoint solution, says Bush, users can connect a total of four external participants from various networks anywhere in the world, over IP, in a conference call.

According to Bush, the phone is aimed at business users who travel frequently and want to cut the time and costs involved. “With this solution users can now allow four external participants to attend their conferences from different locations internationally - without additional travelling costs.

“Apart from delivering great duplex audio sound with OmniSound 2.0, the MeetingPoint phone can also support conference recording, which lets users record a conference call onto an SD card that slots into the unit,” Bush says.

Although the hardware supports this functionality, users will have to wait for the next firmware update, which he says will be available within the next two months, to enable the function.

The solution also includes full duplex broadband audio that can accommodate larger conference groups of up to 10 people, without compromising call clarity, according to Bush. “Its range can also be extended for larger meetings with the addition of expansion microphones,” he notes.
