How do you know when you have the right service provider?

When a company does a technology refresh of its IT equipment, there is always the problem of how to recover the asset value of the old equipment and to find a way of disposing of this equipment quickly and effectively with the least impact on the environment. How do you know when you have the right service provider?

PartServe Channel Support director Lee Bowes says the company offers two solutions for the disposal of this equipment: Fixed Price buybacks and Shared Revenue sales. “PartServe is well known to the South African corporate community as a first-class solution to their IT asset disposal requirements. We specialise in the refurbishment and resale of second-hand PC and printing equipment.”

Fixed Price Buy Back is based upon a fair market value of IT equipment and a negotiated set price is established. Upon receipt and inspection of equipment, a report of any defects is issued and PartServe absorbs the inventory risk during the sale cycle.

Alternatively, the Shared Revenue Sale allows PartServe to take the disposal burden by handling the inventory and verifying its specifications. Products are sorted and tested to verify functionality and specifications are confirmed. If product has value in the marketplace, it will be sold at fair market value and a negotiated percentage of the proceeds will be returned to the company upon completion of the sale. If there is no value, the product is scrapped and disposed of.

Through its five branches, PartServe stocks and sells spare parts for all the products it officially supports as well as most other branded IT products available in South Africa. As South Africa's leading IT outsource warranty management company, PartServe represents Lenovo, Epson, Canon, Sony PlayStation, Zebra, Viewsonic, Brother and Mitsubishi Electronics and is the first choice for out of warranty repairs of laptops, PCs, monitors, scanners and printers.

Bowes says PartServe is corporate South Africa's preferred partner for IT asset disposal. “We have helped many South African corporate companies achieve maximum return on redundant IT equipment and we have disposed of thousands of pieces of IT equipment from banks, retailers, blue chip corporate companies, professional organisations as well as many other entities.”

PartServe offers a complete service where all products, including old scrap IT assets, will be removed and disposed of from anywhere in the country. Furthermore, all products that are not recovered for resale are disposed of according to the environmentally friendly IS014000 standards, and PartServe is a member of the e-Waste Association of South Africa and supports sustainable computing.

The company has a warranty programme that has been designed to make product warranty failures a surprisingly easy experience. Currently, it makes use of 34 outsourced warranty centres around the country and each centre carries stock of refurbished equipment.

“When a customer has a product failure the unit will be taken in to a centre and tested. It will undergo a simple testing procedure that lasts no longer than five minutes, and if the unit is found to be faulty, the customer product is immediately replaced with a refurbished unit,” he explains.

In addition to the warranty programme, PartServe also runs an upgrade programme for some vendors, whereby competitive products can be upgraded to that product at a very attractive price.

PartServe also has a fully equipped tool room and remanufacturing facility and supplies an extensive range of “as new” remanufactured parts. These products are supplied on an exchange or non-exchange basis.

All products that are purchased via corporate asset disposals are refurbished and restocked for resale. PartServe carries an extensive range of notebooks, personal computers, servers, screens, printers, faxes, copiers, scanners, projectors, cash draws and other IT equipment. All refurbished products carry a three-month repair warranty.
