Sony Electronics launches new Extra Bass wireless speakers with superior sound, extra durability, refreshed designs

• SRS-XB43, SRS-XB33 and SRS-XB23 speakers produce enhanced sound quality with the newly developed X-Balanced Speaker Units.

Sony Electronics has announced the launch of its new EXTRA BASS wireless speaker line-up. The new range, which is made up of the SRS-XB43, SRS-XB33 and SRS-XB23, features superb sound quality, toughness and usability, all housed in refreshed new designs.

X-Balanced Speaker Unit

The EXTRA BASS wireless XB speaker range features Sony’s newly developed X-Balanced Speaker Unit, which is engineered to achieve high sound quality and powerful sound pressure for a richer, deeper and more rewarding listening experience. The unit’s non-circular shape maximises the area of the speaker diaphragm, increasing sound pressure for more punchy bass. It also reduces driver excursion while maintaining the same sound pressure, resulting in less distortion.

Unlike the circular diaphragm in a conventional speaker unit, the X-Balanced Speaker Unit in the XB43 features an almost rectangular diaphragm. Its two-way speaker system combines a woofer for low to mid frequencies with a dedicated tweeter for the higher range frequencies. This results in powerful sound, deep punchy bass and exceptional vocal clarity.

The X-Balanced Speaker Unit in the XB33 and XB23 features a newly developed non-circular diaphragm and off-centre design. This new design maximises the speaker diaphragm, creating more sound pressure, but keeps the speakers compact in size.

Waterproof, dust proof, rustproof and shockproof[ii]

The new models have an IP67 rating, so music-lovers can now take the party to the beach without worrying about saltwater damage, thanks to the speakers’ saltwater resistance. The durable build also allows the speakers to keep playing no matter how dusty the surface.

The speakers[iii] have also undergone extensive shock testing and, thanks to the latest shockproof durable design, can withstand the inevitable knocks, bumps and scrapes that come with everyday use. Not even the clumsiest of accidents or unintentional drops will be an issue. The speakers[iv] are designed to keep working[v], no matter what’s thrown at them.

Creating the perfect party environment

The speakers have a LIVE SOUND mode[vi] feature, which brings any party to life. This feature produces a three-dimensional experience, so music sounds as though it’s being played live by the artist. For an added music festival atmosphere, the speakers’ fresh design also features a multi-colour line, tweeter[vii] and speaker lighting.

Users can create a lively club atmosphere straight from their smartphones using the “Fiestable” companion app[viii]. The app can be used to set the lights to sync with the beat, or simply change the colour to suit the mood. Users can also control the speaker from the dance floor with the “Sony | Music Centre” app[ix], using it to select their favourite playlist, cue the next song or turn the lighting off.

The new XB speakers also have a new Party Connect feature, which allows users to connect up to 100 compatible wireless speakers[x], using Bluetooth technology to sync the music and lights so everyone dances to the same beat.

The new speaker line-up comes in a wide range of colours with a refreshed design, perfectly complementing any space. Thanks to a compact, lightweight and easy to carry design, the XB23 fits perfectly into a backpack pocket or the cupholder of a camping chair. It also features a convenient strap to hang it from a tent or tree during a weekend camping trip.

Battery life and connectivity

With a battery life of up to 24 hours[xi], Sony’s new speakers will keep the party going all night long and can be charged using the newly adopted USB-Type-C. Users can connect their smartphone via the speaker’s USB Type-A port to charge their phone battery[xii], so they can keep listening to their favourite music on the go using Bluetooth technology and NFC[xiii].
