Blausen updates Human Atlas app

Blausen, a developer and owner of a large library of 3D medical animations, has released 'Blausen Human Atlas 2.0' for the iPhone, reports TMCnet.

The application, developed in partnership with CodeMorphic, offers 3D images and videos of 150 common medical treatments and conditions. It also provides point-of-care access to common medical treatments and conditions, with accompanying narration, and the new version also has increased medical content and enhanced functionality.

According to Blausen, the Human Atlas iPhone digital resource tool is derived from Blausen's proprietary medical animation library, containing over 7 000 individual animations and 13 000 illustrations.

Verizon targets healthcare industry

Verizon Business has unveiled two managed security services designed specifically for the healthcare industry, to aid in protecting the confidentiality of electronic medical records, states Telephony Online.

The two services are part of a new healthcare practice at Verizon Business that is designed to develop new services and tailor existing ones to meet the specific needs of this major market segment, says Barry Zipp, director of Verizon Connected Health Care Solutions.

“Part of [the new practice] is an improved value proposition,” Zipp said. “Instead of saying we can sell you this product, we will show how this product can be used for this clinical application.

England unveils hospital comparison site

Patients can now rate and compare hospitals online after health secretary Andy Burnham unveiled a tool to give patients better information to choose services within the NHS, says Computing.co.uk.

The scorecard, available on the NHS Web site, will work in a similar way to Internet price comparison Web sites and will rate different facets of a hospital such as car parking, waiting times and mortality rates.

Burnham said patients need to have more choice in the NHS. “Going into hospital is one of the most important moments in anyone's life. And yet we don't equip patients with anything like enough information to make informed decisions," he said.
