Business Connexion's Morakile nominated as ITA Vice-President

Johannesburg, 07 Jun 2011

An integral aspect of good corporate citizenship is the participation in and contribution to industry bodies and the broader communities in which every company operates. Business Connexion is therefore pleased to announce that Jimmy Morakile, its group manager: transformation, was recently elected a vice-president of the Information Technology Association (ITA).

The official representative body of the ICT industry, the ITA has as its objectives the promotion and protection of the interests of its members, including upholding an industry-wide code of ethics.

It engages with government departments and all other interested bodies of concern, or likely to be of concern to members and promotes high standards of quality, design and workmanship in the IT sector.

One of three vice-presidents, Morakile was elected at the ITA's recent 77th Annual General Meeting, held in Johannesburg. Morakile is a long-term member of the association and he values the opportunity to contribute to the organisation's direction.

Also, he represents the ITA at the Busa Transformation Committee (Transpol). As the chairperson of the Busa Transpol Sub-committee on skills development and employment equity, Morakile represents Busa in the Presidential BEE Advisory Council Sub-committee on skills development and employment equity.

“The delivery of ICT solutions in South Africa does not happen independently of the social and commercial conditions which prevail in the country. Through my participation and contribution to the activities of the ITA, we will seek to further accelerate industry involvement in fostering social change through the judicial and appropriate application of ICT solutions,” he says.

In particular, Morakile draws attention to the role of the ITA in shaping policy. “It is generally accepted that ICT has a substantial role to play in advancing the lives of the less fortunate; the as a core capability, the ITA acts as collective voice for the industry to contribute to the way forward, providing our members with a platform to give direct input into the SA legislative framework, and also develop common standards to the benefit of the industry - and the community,” he says.

Business Connexion CEO Benjamin Mophatlane hails Morakile's achievement. “Our approach to ICT solution delivery is encompassed in the 'Connective Intelligence' ethos. By contributing prominently to the ITA, Morakile is living Connective Intelligence - joining minds and technology to create the extraordinary. That's what it takes to achieve excellence for the industry and for South Africa.”
