FTI seminar: The power of testing teams

Cape Town, 18 Feb 2014

Faculty Training Institute's (FTI's) latest complimentary breakfast seminar, called "Can you Plug and Play?", is taking place on 25 February in Johannesburg and on 13 March in Cape Town.

Business leaders, IT managers, project managers, test managers, test analysts, testers and anyone involved in the business or technical side of delivering software is invited to understand the power of plug-and-play testing. Plug-and-play testing is a groundbreaking methodology that incorporates different human test resources and plugs them into any test or quality assurance team to function individually and as part of the team.

According to Celia Gaylard, seminar presenter, FTI course designer and FTI lecturer, testing as a profession is so greatly evolved that it can no longer be ignored by IT project teams or by organisations. "Acknowledging the worth of testing and the value that it brings to any team and organisation is the first step in understanding that testing is an essential business function."

Participants who attend one of the hour-long breakfast sessions will understand the current situation with regards to QA or testing in organisations, whether they be either with a vendor or internal to the organisation. The interactive seminar, which allows delegate interaction through a question and answer session, highlights why plug-and-play testing is useful, if not an absolute necessity in organisations.

Gaylard will share her thorough understanding of this area and will also map out what individuals need to change, either in their behavior or business systems, to allow for professional growth of testing and quality assurance teams to enable plug-and-play testing.

Gaylard, who has spent 17 years in the IT industry, is a lecturer on FTI's flagship Certificate Programme in Quality Assurance and Testing. A large portion of her experience was gained in the telecommunications and financial industries, with 15 years specifically in software quality assurance roles. Recently, Gaylard became a Neuro-link practitioner - an additional skill that she will be using in her transference of testing expertise and knowledge to delegates.

"Thinking is a critical skill in testing and it is hugely beneficial to delegates on FTI's testing courses to understand how to use both hemispheres of the brain simultaneously and equally," she says.

Neuro-Link develops people through unique brain-based learning and development.

"FTI is proud to be associated with Celia. FTI strives for excellence in training and we are constantly researching new methodologies for our own teaching practices and the development of FTI courseware," says Sandy Williamson, brand manager of FTI.
