Mango will later this month release a near complete portfolio of its products and services via a new mobi-site and forthcoming tablet applications.

Customers will be able to book, pay for flights, choose seating and purchase additional products, all from mobile devices. The existing Flymango.com site will now be able to detect when a user is accessing it from a mobile device and will adjust to the mobi-site automatically.

The tablet application will be available for download from existing app stores by the end of October, according to Mango.

Mango CEO Nico Bezuidenhout believes the new mobi-services will extend to where traditional e-commerce has no reach. “Mobile connectivity in South Africa accounts for a significant portion of Internet users who solely connect using their cellphones. This represents a vast, untapped online market well within our potential customer base,” says Bezuidenhout.

He adds that Mango will be able to effectively reach nearly 2.5 million potential customers who do not access the Internet any other way.

“Marry this with our wide payment method acceptance, particularly Edgars and Jet store charge cards that are highly relevant to this market, and you have a winning recipe.”

Mango also retails flights through Shoprite Checkers, and says it is the only airline globally to accept store cards.

The new mobi-services follow the introduction of G-Connect In-Flight WiFi service to 90% of its fleet.
