240 in MTC's first weekend of latest 'scratch and win' campaign

Windhoek, 08 Apr 2010

The winter may be fast approaching, but at MTC, the coldest winter can always turn into the warmest period of the year, as we are always keen to warm our customers' hearts with the hottest deals and promotions in town. MTC is once again offering jaw-dropping deals and promotions to its wide range of customers, from the prepaid to the contract customer, or to those that want a combination of the value-for-money deals on offer.

Top on the bill of MTC's delivery is the much-talked-about iPhone, which has finally arrived in MobileHomes. MTC is giving the Smart iPhone away on a 24-month Smart package contract for only N$399 a month. The Smart iPhone offers the complete convenience of e-mail access, synchronisation to any PC or server, business applications and programmes and a lot more unthinkable benefits.

MTC has decided to surprise and reward its loyal customers with the 'Scratch and Win' promotion. All the Tango customers that recharge for the month of April 2010 will stand a chance to win one of 48 prizes every day! Customers who do not win one of these prizes will win Free Money, equal to the value of their recharge amount. If you recharge with N$30, and did not win a prize, MTC will give the customer N$30 Free Money.

“We have had 240 winners over the Easter weekend alone. This campaign allows for two winners every hour, as there are a total of 48 prizes to win each 24 hours. We wish to express our appreciation to our loyal 081 nation through this offer and of course retain and attract customers through our well planned promotional campaigns,” said Miguel Geraldes, managing director at MTC.

Contract customers (who are in good standing with MTC) will automatically go into a draw for the prizes during the month of April, with two draws taking place during the month. The campaign (promotional period), which started on 1 April 2010, will end on 30 April 2010. Free Money will be available during the promotional period only.

What does the customer need to do? Tango customers must recharge via recharge voucher (Physical or Virtual) or via mobile banking. Contract customers must be in good standing with MTC. No outstanding invoices older than 30 days.

Customers will be contacted during the course of the day and confirm prize winners and delivery of the prizes. Customers should not come to the head office today in order to collect the prizes. Prizes include iPods, big screen TVs, digital cameras and computers, among other awesome offerings.

Said MTC's Managing Director, Miguel Geraldes: “We understand it is not easy to wait for these excellent prizes, but we need to deliver prizes in a controlled manner in order to prevent any dishonest activities by criminal parties. We do, however, assure you that if you are a winner, you will receive your prize within the same week.”

MTC

MTC (Mobile Telecommunications Limited) was established in 1995 as a joint venture between Namibia Post and Telecommunications Holdings (NPTH), Telia and Swedfund. During May 2004, NPTH concluded a deal that saw it hold 100% of the shares in MTC by acquiring the 49% held by Telia Overseas AB and Swedfund International AB. During 2006, the sale of 34% of MTC shares to Portugal Telecom was concluded for N$1.34 billion, while the Namibian government retains the remainder of the stake through NPTH.

MTC currently covers 98% of the population of nearly 2 million citizens with more than 650 base stations and repeaters and offers a dual band 900/1800MHZ. The company also expanded its cellular coverage to all major towns in Namibia, including the major arterial roads. It further runs two modern MSC's (mobile switching centre) in Windhoek and Oshakati with capacity to accommodate rapidly rising number of customers of over 1.3 million active users. MTC also operates the only full service customer contact centre in Namibia dealing with service queries ranging from telephony, SMS, fax, GPRS, data, voicemail and 3G/HSDPA. A staff of 367 persons serves a diverse market of both pre- and postpaid subscribers.
