3Com extends portfolio

3Com, as part of its introduction of its H3C large-enterprise networking portfolio, also introduced an extensible centre switching platform and a next-generation management platform, according to Business Wire.

The new H3C S12500 centre aggregation and high-end enterprise core switch is built on a modern system architecture that delivers 2.2 billion packets per second of forwarding through a 6.6Tbps non-blocking fabric.

It features up to 128 non-blocking 10Gb or 864 non-blocking Gigabit Ethernet ports and 50% less power consumption than competing products; a combination that delivers market-leading lower total cost of ownership in both Capex and Opex.

Dell expands EA certification

Dell is updating and expanding its enterprise architecture (EA) certification tracks, adding new categories and requiring additional staff from solution providers, reports Channel Web.

Effective immediately, the computer manufacturer is expanding its solution certification paths to include servers as well as storage.

The EA storage specialist will be joined by the EA server specialist, as well as the EA certified partner track, which is a combination of the two.

Working on EA mechanics

Enterprise architecture groups need to pay attention to the 'mechanics of management', a consultant has advised, if they are to successfully balance the long-term goals of EA against pressing recessionary short-term business needs, according to CBR.

Speaking at the Open Group's Enterprise Architecture Practitioners Conference, Thomas Obitz, principal architect for Infosys Technologies, said that EA groups need to refocus initiatives on enterprise priorities and employ best practices that deliver and demonstrate business value.

When Infosys completed its annual assessment of EA in business, Obitz says there was evidence that the EA team was subject to headcount reduction and cost cutting just like other parts of the organisation.
