3Com WithDrawal: DNS Opts for Nortel Networks

Johannesburg, 10 Apr 2000

The DNS Group, a JSE-listed Dimension Holdings subsidiary, has thrown its weight behind Nortel Networks as its flagship solutions provider, following the withdrawal of 3Com from the enterprise networking arena.

The DNS Group, through its DNS Networking business unit, has been the largest 3Com enterprise integrator in South Africa.

DNS director, Keith Boyd, says the choice of Nortel Networks was prompted by the enterprise-wide focus of its offerings and the emphasis the organisation is placing on and data integration.

"Nortel Networks and DNS have enjoyed a four year relationship which has proven very successful. This has culminated in our receiving Nortel Networks` Enterprise System Partner (ESP) of the year award in 1999.

Boyd says Nortel Network`s leadership in the area of voice integration is an important criterion and a key to the future strength and viability of DNS business offerings.

However, he reassured DNS customers using the 3Com platform that their networks will be supported for some time.

"We want to assure 3Com users that there is no rush to change platforms. We have agreements in place with 3Com that will assure support for their networks for several years. We also have the skills and the product inventory to achieve this.

"At the same time, DNS is preparing to work with customers to prepare and implement phased and integrated migration plans to a technology platform most appropriate for their businesses."

"By leveraging our substantial country-wide investments in skills and product, DNS can offer customers a high level of security," adds Boyd.
