3D LCD dominates TV market

[EMBEDDE]3D TV sales have grown consistently month-on-month since the first panel was unveiled in Australia in March 2010, writes Current.com.

Over 100 000 3D panels have been sold, with only July 2010 registering a drop in sales compared to the previous month.

Throughout this time, 3D LCD has been the dominant technology, but a closer look reveals an interesting trend. Sales figures obtained by Current.com.au show that from[since?] the unveiling of 3D TV technology in autumn 2010, the monthly sell through figures have grown steadily, with a 33% jump in 3D TV sales during December 2010.

Meanwhile, HDTV Test reports that Japanese TV manufacturers Sony and Panasonic have sold the most units of 3D LCD TV and 3D plasma television worldwide respectively over the final quarter of 2010, according to the latest from market research firm DisplaySearch.

Korean consumer electronics giant Samsung remains the overall leader though, when total 3D TV shipments comprising both display technologies are taken in account.

Overall, Digital Home reveals, worldwide television sales rose to a record 77.6 million units in the fourth quarter of 2010, up 15% from the same quarter in 2009, according to sales figures collected by DisplaySearch.
