3G wireless notebooks for Dell
Dell has chosen US equipment manufacturer Novatel Wireless to supply wireless EV-DO and HSDPA mobile broadband embedded modules for its next-generation notebook computers.
The PC vendor said this week that it will include Novatel`s 3G modems in its forthcoming Latitude notebooks.
The move will allow Dell`s mobile customers to wirelessly send and receive e-mails, surf the Internet, download attachments and access corporate networks through a virtual private network, reports vnunet.com.
MMT boosts notebook line-up
Victorian-based distributor, Multimedia Technology (MMT), will distribute Fujitsu`s LifeBook range alongside existing product lines, including notebooks and tablet PCs from Panasonic and Sony.
MMT MD, John Hassall, said one of the primary motivations the company had for ramping up its notebook range was the rapid uptake of mobile over desktop computing. This shift was taking business away from the whitebox market, an area where MMT had been doing a lot of its business through the supply of components.
MMT will showcase its Fujitsu range at its expo for resellers in Sydney on 2 March, reports arnnet.com.
LCDs are the desktop monitor of choice
Increasing availability and falling prices have made LCDs the desktop monitor technology of choice over recent years, reports tgdaily.com.
Shipments of LCDs have grown by 54% in 2005 and LCDs currently outsell traditional CRT monitors at a 3:1 pace, according to a report released by DisplaySearch.
Despite concerns of glass substrate shortages and price hikes especially for the 17" segment of LCD monitors, LCD manufacturers posted yet another record year in 2005 and doubled their production volumes since 2003.
