3Tera has released Dynamic Appliances, which it refers to as packaged data centre operations.
These include backup, migration, or service level agreements, which users can add to their applications to provide functionality. It is different to traditional data centre management systems that need months to deploy and numerous system administrators to maintain, the company says.
Dynamic Appliances allows data centre operations to be directly embedded into distributed applications by dragging and dropping them into the application, 3Tera says. The application then gains the ability to perform that operation for itself, even if it is moved to another data centre.
Bert Armijo, senior VP of sales and product management at 3Tera, says: "One of the biggest advantages of utility computing is the reduction in labour required to deploy, maintain and scale applications.
"To accomplish this, we focused on driving manageability down into the applications, making them self-manageable."
