Few local households do not know the "Fashion, beauty, social, literary and lifestyle editor of the Hillside Times", or do not look forward to the antics of Charlemaine and Oubaas every day in Oppiekoffie.
Good news for all 7de Laan addicts is that from 4 December, the Laan's variety of quirky characters can be accessed by anyone with a Vodafone live! 3G cellphone - for behind the scenes extras and titbits (referred to as mobisodes).
This is the first locally produced and commissioned content for mobile TV and is an illustration of Vodacom's leadership position in the area of offering entertainment on cellphones. It brings the first locally produced made-for-mobile, mobisodes to the South African market.
The 7de Laan mobisodes are unique, as they do not constitute a mere re-run of the daily TV programme. Each mobisode is two minutes long and is released daily after the 6.30pm SABC2 transmission.
"Customers can download the mobisodes directly to their 3G Vodafone live! cellphones and watch from the latest gossip to the innermost thoughts and confessions of the 7de Laan characters," says Peter Matlare, executive director - Commercial, Vodacom SA.
Four to five 7de Laan characters are inside scoops revealing what is going to happen in the next episode of 7de Laan.
The actors and producers are having a great time developing the 7de Laan mobisodes for Vodacom's Vodafone live! customers. A brand new mobisode can be downloaded every single day, which means this festive season, 7de Laan fans will be able to watch their favourite mobisode on their 3G Vodafone live! cellphones.
"Twelve months ago, Vodacom launched the first Mobile TV service in SA, currently boasting 22 TV channels. Vodacom again leads the way in launching the first home-grown, popular South African soapie 7de Laan in mobisodes to its customers," concludes Mr Matlare.
