Telkom's cellular arm 8ta has unveiled a once-off 120GB data bundle, consisting of a 60GB package for anytime use and a 60GB Midnight Surfer bundle for use between 12am and 5am.
The mobile broadband promotion, introduced yesterday, follows an announcement made by the operator that it has reduced broadband rates of up to 25% for its once-off and postpaid Internet packages.
The 120GB Internet bundle is valid for a period of 12 months and costs R1 800.
Managing executive of Telkom Mobile Amith Maharaj says the latest offer was introduced in response to numerous requests from subscribers for larger bundles that could be used over a longer period of time. “[This] will suit students as well as heavy Internet users who want to control their spending or do not yet qualify for monthly contracts.”
Maharaj says all the data will be allocated upfront, giving users full control of their data usage. “[This means] that they could use it all in one month or manage their usage over the 12 months. There is no restriction on the number of data bundles users can purchase.”
The prepaid promotion is only available on the 8ta network and offers high-end data users the per megabyte price of 1.5c, provided they are situated within the 8ta coverage map. 8ta says there is general coverage in the six major metropolitan areas.
The bundle will be sold for a limited period only, and while 8ta has not yet said when it will expire, the operator says users will be given sufficient notice prior to the expiry of the promotion, upon which they will be migrated to the normal prepaid per second billing (PSB) rate plan.
All participating Telkom Direct Stores, 8ta flagship stores, Altech Autopage and Nashua Mobile stores can activate the SIM card for access to the prepaid PSB data promo rate plan immediately.
Existing prepaid PSB and per-minute billing users will have to contact the 8ta call centre on 081180 or 081183 to convert to the prepaid PSB data promo rate plan first, to get access to purchase the once-off Internet 60GB promo bundle.
Customers can also purchase and RICA their SIMs from any of 8ta's channels and call 081180 or 081183 to convert to the prepaid PSB data promo rate plan first, giving them access to the once-off Internet 60GB promo bundle.
The promotion does not include a modem. “Users will receive free call-out and support services with every purchase of a 3G data modem,” says Maharaj.
