A cost-effective way to stay connected

Johannesburg, 14 Jun 2010

The Internet allows people to connect to friends, search for new information and knowledge, watch and share digital content, and even play games online. All these are useful and fun, but cost a lot of money.

“If you are a heavy Internet user or have a group of people, such as your families, friends, classmates, or co-workers that simultaneously need the network, you'll need a device that offers you WiFi and 3G connectivity wherever you go, and it must be small enough for easy mobility,” said Tobie van Schalkwyk, D-Link South Africa Country Manager.

“The device you need is D-Link DIR-457U. This device seamlessly switches between 3G and WiFi so you do not need to hunt for a WiFi hotspot when you're out and about, and can always keep you staying connected. The DIR-457U with WiFi offers super-fast data speeds up to 7.2Mbps over 3G cellular networks. It also speeds up big files and music download from the Internet. With this device you don't need to hurry home to e-mail out your written assignment, or hurry to the office to send out a quotation or to search files.”

“With the DIR-457U, students are now able to post news to personal blogs or social media like Facebook, using a mobile phone anytime, anywhere,” Van Schalkwyk continued. “Additionally, mobile workers can fire off e-mails via smartphone or check Google Maps while sitting on the train. This pocket-sized slim device has a built-in a 3G SIM card and a rechargeable battery that's neater and easier to use. It's small enough to fit in your pocket, so Internet can go wherever you go.”

Using this device helps saves cost by allowing users to share its 3G connection via WiFi, for up to 16 clients/people. A group of people who need to have Internet access at the same time when travelling will find the DIR-457U to be a very cost-effective solution. This device offers connectivity to a variety of devices and wireless modems at the same time. While checking e-mails on a laptop, users can also download music from iTunes onto the iPod Touch. There is also a built-in microSD card slot that can hold a memory card of up to 32GB to conveniently share files between WiFi enabled devices.

The DIR-457U is also able to serve as the backup solution when home landline Internet fails. It provides mobile broadband anytime, anywhere without a contract.
