Interconnect Systems in Vereeniging recently successfully completed a string of projects for customer Samancor. Samancor holds plentiful reserves of chrome and manganese ores and owns several efficient processing plants. As such they are leading South African producers of these ores and alloys.
The first project involved constructing a brand new computer room in the main Samancor office building and equipping it fully, then installing a cabling system, which supports data, telephone and access control services, in the client`s Main Admin & Human Resources building.
Samancor understandably utilizes a vast amount of ESCOM-supplied power and the second project - the Amcor Plant LAN installation, has resulted in the Samancor management team being able to monitor power consumption. During this installation, almost 10 km of blown fibre was installed in special routes which link various electrical sub-stations together. Because many of the fibre routes run underground, a substantial amount of trenching needed to be done before this installation could be completed. The Amcor Office LAN installation also fell into the scope of work during this project.
The third was the Metalloys computer room installation, which took place after the new computer room had been installed in the main Samancor Admin Building. This contract involved the installation of access flooring, suspended ceilings and electrical, data and fibre reticulation. Access control cabling infrastructure also needed to be installed throughout the entire Metalloys building.
The fourth project - the Polyfos Workshop network upgrade meant re-cabling the workshop and offices and called for the installation of a 1 km blown fibre backbone.
The client is reportedly pleased with all of the work that Interconnect has completed.
Francois Jordaan, the regional manager of Interconnect Systems in Vereeniging, recently stated that his primary objective is to offer service excellence and reliable after-sales support to all of his customers. "In the plant environment, where cable breakdowns can be the cause of substantial losses, our customers call us out and expect us to be on site in minutes. So that`s exactly what we do - we have a system in place that allows us to literally offer emergency assistance within minutes."
