A new package, with contract benefits for the cost-conscious youth

Johannesburg, 09 Nov 2006

Grassroots, Lizards, Playas, Magpies and Sophisticats. These are tags colloquially used to identify different groups of South Africans - based on income, location and occupation.

As diverse as the slang names they are known by, these young adults, from rural, low-income earners to students and up to middle management level, all have one thing in common. With little or no income a month, managing their monthly cellphone spending is a task which only a diligent few can control.

"A cellphone package with the convenience of a contract but a lower monthly commitment is a 'must-have' for those on a tight budget - especially young people who prefer a package that gives them better control over their spending with a lower monthly commitment and the option to top up when they need to," says Chris Ross, Vodacom's Managing Executive of Products and Services.

To address this need, Vodacom has introduced a new package for young people: Top Up 75 - a hybrid between a Contract and Prepaid package that offers them guaranteed monthly airtime credit of R75 per month.

With the Top Up 75, Vodacom customers will get a guaranteed R75 worth of airtime credit each month, so there is no need to recharge continuously. Subscribers can buy additional airtime or SMS bundles by contacting their service provider to activate.

There are compelling benefits which Top Up 75 offers customers, including:

* Lower call rates,
* Discounted SMS rates with SMS bundles,
* Free minutes, and
* A cellphone included in this package.
