For many years, those businesses that wanted access to high-speed fully featured multifunctional workgroup printers (MFPs) had to opt for bulky A3 devices, even if they very seldom printed documents in A3 format.
Today, many businesses have shifted to smart A4 MFPs because of the added capabilities, such as faster print speeds, paper capacity, networking and other workgroup functionality. Virtually everything you`d expect from a typical A3 copier is now standard with Lexmark A4 workgroup MFPs, says Lawrence van Namen, Lexmark Product Marketing Manager.
Right balance
Features including scanning documents straight to e-mail or starting a workflow from the MFP are no longer exclusively found in A3 copiers. Touch-screen interfaces for previewing scans, duplex printing to save paper, and polishing off print runs with advanced finishing, including staple with hole-punching [1]. It`s all possible with Lexmark A4 devices.
Also, unlike many typical copiers and competitive A3 devices, which require expensive or complex add-ons, these A4 workgroup MFPs arm you with a wide range of productivity-boosting features right out of the box. For instance, a comprehensive security kit, including hard disk security, PIN authorisation and secure printing and scanning, as well as an automatic document feeder and high-speed fax, are all available as standard. So you are fully productive from day one!
Studies show that a minute fraction of documents printed are in A3 format. Consequently, A4 MFPs are becoming the market choice, as they are more practical, affordable and environmentally responsible than typical A3 copiers in the same print-speed class.
Not only are A3 copiers more expensive to purchase, but also have higher maintenance and running costs.
In fact, Lexmark`s A4 workgroup MFPs consume almost 50% less power than comparable A3 copiers [3], so they are even more sustainable too.
Additionally, these A4 devices don`t require scheduled maintenance, because most consumables, supplies and parts are customer-replaceable, which in turn can work out to be less expensive. Furthermore, with Lexmark A4 workgroup MFPs, you can opt for extra high-yield cartridges to save even more.
Right balance
While most businesses recognise that there is not a particularly high demand for A3 printing - there will still be times when users will need to print in A3 format. So it`s important that there are at least a few A3 devices available. By giving proper thought to a strategic deployment of MFPs across the office, and integrating it into the MPS infrastructure, businesses can ensure the right technology is in the right place to make printing and document management as simple and efficient as possible.
Ultimately, when it comes to MFPs, bigger isn`t always smarter - or even necessary. By taking this holistic approach to the deployment, businesses can take solutions closer to the point of need, while retaining functionality at a reduced cost. In short, everyone wins.
