ABBYY Recognition Server named KMWorld`s Trend-Setting Product of 2006

Johannesburg, 13 Sep 2006

Deltalink Consulting, the exclusive southern African distributor of Russia-based ABBYY, today announced that the latter`s Recognition Server has been named one of the `Trend-Setting Products of the Year for 2006` by KMWorld magazine.

This prestigious ranking, published in the September issue, highlights innovative products that make a significant impact on the marketplace.

ABBYY Recognition Server is a server-based optical character recognition (OCR) solution for delivering scalable, reliable and rapidly deployable recognition functions in a service-oriented environment. With all processing performed remotely on a server, the new product offers automated document recognition and PDF conversion with minimum user intervention.

"Our panellists noted that accurate, automated and centralised recognition functions are essential to full-text search of business contents," commented Hugh McKellar, Editor in Chief of KMWorld magazine. "ABBYY`s new Recognition Server represents a simple software appliance approach to OCR. It accommodates not only centralised scanning but also ad-hoc, de-centralised scanning which is how most business content is captured in enterprise environments."

According to McKellar, assembling the list of Trend-Setting Products of 2006 is a year-long collaborative effort with editorial colleagues and analysts - and most of all, users. "Roughly 1 500 products from some 300 vendors were considered, and the ones listed here demonstrate exquisite execution designed for, and with input from, the most important constituency of them all - their customers," continued McKellar.

"ABBYY Recognition Server addresses a growing need for easier document recognition deployment in complex work environments," added Alexander Rylov, ABBYY Chief Product Manager. "ABBYY had long been recognised as a trend setter in the arena of recognition technologies. We are proud that KMWorld has selected ABBYY Recognition Server as a Trend-Setting Product of the Year. This recognition will further inspire us to continue our research and innovation effort to develop the best recognition technology that is not only accurate, but also easy to deploy, easy to integrate and easy to use."

Based on ABBYY`s award-winning recognition platform, ABBYY Recognition Server offers highly accurate conversion of images into text or searchable PDF for the purpose of categorising, archiving, searching or integrating with third-party content management systems. This robust solution automates recognition and PDF conversion processes by providing ready-to-use functionality deployed on a server, giving system administrators, enterprises and service providers greater flexibility in the deployment, management and integration of OCR and document conversion functions.
