Sweet wholesaler ABC Sweets is to install the Vytill point of sale (POS) and accounting software package from JSE-listed Casey at six of its stores by the first quarter of 2000, starting with the installation of a Beta site at its head office building in Pretoria.
According to Ebrahim Wahab, managing director of Casey Consulting, the Casey Group subsidiary responsible for the roll-out, the company is also in the final stages of conducting a Y2K audit for ABC Sweets. Wahab said the installation of the company`s Vytill software solution at ABC Sweet`s head office would be concluded by the the end of the year. "We are treating this as a Beta site for the group. Once we are satisfied that everything is running smoothly and all business processes are running smoothly - and in tandem with Vytill - we will start the roll-out to the other stores."
Wahab said Vytill is specifically aimed at the SOHO and SME retail markets.
"All seven of Casey`s subsidiaries - which focus on multiple skills ranging from hardware and software, to networking, maintenance and Internet delivery - focus on the SOHO and SME markets. "Vytill, as a consequence, has been developed to slot comfortably into this market - and will be the responsibility of the groups` consultancy arm, Casey Consulting," said Wahab.
One of the strengths of the product is the fact that its back office component has been designed to synchronise the data between the head office and the branch or franchise outlet.
This feature is seen as a major advantage for retailers as it cuts running costs dramatically. "The retailer can work off-line and download all the relevant information from store level once per day, doing away with the need for costly dedicated lines.
Downloads can be conducted via normal dial-up modem or ISDN," said Wahab.
Other recent Vytill installations include general retailer, Kit Kat, and Fahb Distributors - part of the Fahb Group.
Vytill comes with the traditional POS and accounting modules, including debtors, creditors, stock control, POS, sales and back office.
