An industry-leading growth in storage revenues in Q3 2007, 100% year-on-year growth by the FibreCAT SX family of storage solutions - plus an increase in x86 industry standard server market share for PRIMERGY servers from Fujitsu Siemens Computers are among the highlights of the latest market share figures from research company IDC*.
Showing an industry-leading 38% year-on-year increase in revenues within the external storage array market**, a highlight for Fujitsu Siemens Computers' booming storage business was the market acceptance of the disk-based FibreCAT SX series storage systems for small and medium-size businesses. The FibreCAT SX series achieved a 100% increase in revenue growth in the third calendar quarter compared to the same period in the previous year.
In the server segment, Fujitsu Siemens Computers grew twice as fast as the overall market in unit shipments of x86 industry-standard servers, demonstrated by a year-on-year growth of 25.4% and an increase to 8.4% in overall server market share***. Key to the success was a strong focus on indirect channel and mid-market sales, plus the energy-efficiency of its server design.
Dieter Herzog, Executive Vice-President Infrastructure Products at Fujitsu Siemens Computers, comments: "Strong sales performance and growth in market share and revenue for our server and storage product families underlines that our customers and channel partners are on board with our strategy and that we are hitting the sweet spot in meeting current and future demands in the hard-fought market for small and medium-size companies."
Thomas Meyer, Vice-President EMEA Systems and Infrastructure Solutions at IDC, commented: "The results show that investment by Fujitsu Siemens Computers into high growth markets has paid off. Combined with a new sales and channel approach, the company has shown growth that is significantly above market averages."
Strong performance underlines success of server and storage strategy
Competitively-priced, FibreCAT SX devices are designed to meet the needs of small and mid-sized enterprises (SMEs). They are based on state-of-the-art storage technology, combining high availability, excellent reliability and speed with simple set up and operation. Three models make up the FibreCAT SX model range, including the flagship SX88 model launched at the end of the third quarter, providing up to 50% faster performance thanks to optimised RAID controllers and 4 Gigabit per second fibre-channel connections.
Contributing to its strong performance in x86 server sales, Fujitsu Siemens Computers has concentrated on reducing power consumption and cooling needs of its mainstream PRIMERGY models: state-of-the-art servers designed to deliver extended performance, enlarging the path towards consolidation and operating large applications in fully-virtualised environments, as well as entry-level machines powerful enough so that single units can meet the basic server needs for many small and medium-size companies (PRIMERGY TX160 S6 and RX100 S5).
Fujitsu Siemens Computers' PRIMERGY line of industry-standard servers includes rack, blade, tower systems and BladeFrame. PRIMERGY BladeFrame stands for the dynamic enterprise server solution that creates a pool of virtualisable server nodes. The PRIMERGY server range starts with the TX120, the world's most energy-efficient, quietest and smallest server, providing SME customers with low energy consumption, compact design, low noise levels and lower-than-standard levels of heat output.
