Absa selects Microsoft Exchange as its communication infrastructure

Johannesburg, 24 May 2005

Absa Bank, one of SA`s leading financial services organisations, will migrate its mail systems and deploy Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 with Microsoft Outlook Office Systems 2003 as its messaging system.

As a major South African bank, the group has grown progressively over several years and needs a more effective communications infrastructure to improve and better facilitate the sharing of information, increase productivity and lower the total cost of ownership.

"The implementation of a more effective communications infrastructure maps directly to Absa`s modern management philosophy and supports its future growth plans within the South African banking sector," says Frik van der Merwe, CTO at Absa Group IT.

With the implementation of Exchange Server, Absa will benefit from improved e-mail reliability, enhanced IT efficiency and future server consolidation.

Partnering with Absa, Microsoft Services will work with the bank to complete the design and pilot of the project within the next few months.

"With this project our goal is to assist Absa to get business information into the hands of people who need it within the organisation and so help information workers be more productive," says Hennie Loubser at Microsoft South Africa. "Upon completion, Absa will have developed a critical building block for messaging and future collaboration needs."
