AccTech Systems, an ACCPAC International master reseller and accounting solutions provider, has implemented ACCPAC Advantage Series Enterprise Edition version 5.0 at Armscor Business (Pty) Ltd, a full subsidiary of the Armaments Corporation of South Africa (Armscor).
[VIDEO]"Armscor Business has been running ACCPAC version 3.0 for five years," says Koos Liebenberg, Armscor Business` financial manager. "As part of its New Technology Project (NTP), it was decided that the company would upgrade its financial system. ACCPAC version 5.0 was selected and proved to be the perfect choice, using a Microsoft SQL Server as the underlining database."
Tertius Zitzke, managing director of the AccTech Group, says that, for the duration of the upgrade, users were unable to utilise their workstations.
"Therefore, as part of the tender, Armscor set out a final conversion date by which time all the users` workstations had to be upgraded to the new version. It was of critical importance that the implementation was carried out quickly and precisely."
An intensive two-week, on-site training period assisted Armscor Business personnel in navigating the new version 5.0`s Web-based screens, says Zitzke.
Liebenberg says that what made the implementation so significant was the fact that AccTech carried out a conversion directly from version 3.0 to 5.0, as well as changing the database from Btrieve to MS SQL.
"With outstanding project management and planning, the datasets for more than 16 companies were converted in a limited time frame," he adds.
The implementation was rolled out from Pretoria to Cape Town and included such remote sites as Prieska in the Northern Cape Province. Financial as well as distribution modules were implemented and Assetware`s AssetPro was installed as the fixed assets solution.
"Another major part of the implementation was the customised reports that were designed specifically for Armscor Business," says Zitzke.
"These included the standard ACCPAC financial reports, but also in-depth analysis and financial reports for all 16 business units.
"According to Armscor`s tender regulations, vendors incur penalties if they don`t comply with the stipulated conversion dates. AccTech did not incur a single penalty," he adds.
