Reliable data protection at a low total cost of ownership is now a given with Acer`sAccuRAID S890, a compact 8-bay, SCSI-to-IDE/SCSI-to-SCSI storage system.
"The compact 2U Direct Attached Storage (DAS) system is OS-independent and designed with redundancy to protect valuable data," says Hilton Haefele, product manager: servers at Acer Africa.
The product offers multiple RAID level support (0, 1, 3, 5, 0+1), two hot-swappable power supplies, hot-swappable system fans and up to eight hot-swappable IDE hard disk drivers.
Says Haefele: "The 2U design is ideal for space-conscious consumers, allowing more units to fit in a rack, resulting in a high-density solution. It is also engineered with a cable-free backplane to improve the performance of data flowing from controller to disk.
"In addition, administrators can optimise data transfer performance by manually adjusting the AccuRAID S890`s block level transfer rate to reduce bandwidth consumption or to match their system`s particular I/O rate. Administrators can expand capacity on-line at any time without disrupting the system."
The S890 is designed with numerous fault tolerant features to protect data in the event of failure. If one power supply fails, an alarm will sound and the remaining power supply will assume full command of the system seamlessly. Should a drive fail, the system can be configured to automatically assign a global hot spare or automatically rebuild the drive - all without needing to take the system off line.
In the event of a controller, drive, power supply or fan failure, or should the system overheat, an alarm will automatically sound and the system can be configured to fax or page administrators. The front panel LCD display offers a concise readout of the operating environment including controllers, hard disk drivers, fans and power supply status.
The AccuRAID S890 has functional system status LEDs located on the front panel and next to each hard disk drive to make monitoring the system a quick and painless process. It also offers one Ultra 2 Wide SCSI connection or two Ultra 160 SCSI connections, a modem connector, a serial port and an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) connector.
