According to data released by Dataquest, Acer grew its notebook PC shipments in SA by a staggering 208% in the second quarter of 2003 compared with the same quarter last year. With the market responding favourably to aggressive activity in the SME, retail and commercial sectors, Acer reported growth that greatly exceeded forecasts.
"Acer has achieved growth in all sectors, with the highest growth in the retail and corporate sectors," said Emanuele Accolla, Vice-President, EMEA. "The strategy reshaping Acer has determined growth that far exceeds expectations. Acer`s success is based on a wide and competitive product portfolio."
"Based on year to date results, Acer will attain more than expected volumes while holding our profitability and growth in all areas," said David Drummond, Managing Director, Africa.
Reporting on the increase in market share, Accolla says corporate spending, although gradually picking up as expected, remained cautious, adding that some renewals are, however, taking place and companies have benefited from lower prices.
