Acer introduces eMachines

Acer has further expanded its operations in Indonesia with the introduction of its new eMachines brand, reports The Jakarta Post.

After acquiring Packard Bell, Gateway and eMachines, Acer introduced the eMachines desktops and notebooks to the Indonesian market to expand its 37% market share there, said Jason Lim, president director of Acer Group Indonesia.

Worldwide, the Taiwan-based company is third in terms of sales after Hewlett Packard and Dell.

Dell makes shopping personal

For Dell fans, a visit to the new Dell-Microsoft Experience Store at Mid Valley Megamall is a must, according to iStockAnalyst.

The boutique showcases the latest Dell desktop and laptop product lines powered exclusively by Microsoft software. Microsoft Malaysia's Windows client group director, KT Ng, said the store will serve as a benchmark for future concept stores around Asia.

According to Dell's Asean consumer senior marketing manager, Ivan Omar, the store offers services ranging from after-sales support and thematic mini-seminars to on-site built-to-order sales coaches, to serve the needs of various end-users.

HP, Microsoft disappoint

HP and Microsoft generated lots of positive buzz in the US last week with their Black Friday promise of 40% refunds on everything in the computer giants' online store, says TechFlash.

The promotion translated into huge discounts on HP desktops, notebooks and other products. At least, that was the idea - before consumers were hit by a double-whammy of glitches.

First, Microsoft's Live Search Cashback site was down for a good part of the day, preventing many online shoppers from taking advantage of the Black Friday cashback promotions from HP and others. Now, some of the people who did get through to the site are reporting they received a mere 3% cashback from their HP purchases, not the promised 40%.
