Acer introduces the TravelMate 520series

Acer has introduced a new midrange, desktop replacement all-in-one mobile PC, offering an ideal solution for businesses looking for an affordable, easy-to-use, easy to manage and powerful notebook computer.

Designed with flexibility in mind, the new TravelMate 520 series combines advanced multimedia and mobility features with the latest Intel Mobile Pentium III processors at speeds up to 600MHz with support for Intel Speedstep technology.

"Cost-conscious power PC users no longer have to settle for less," says Nigel Gore, notebook product manager at Acer in SA. "The 520 series delivers a robust mobile solution with features normally found on top-end systems at much higher prices."

One of the most powerful series of notebooks in its class, the TravelMate 520 packs a sleek and integrated design which provides a compact easy-to-carry package for on-the-road convenience into just 3kg.

The TravelMate 520 series features a unique modular bay to accommodate a 20X CD-ROM or 6X DVD along with 8MB of VRAM for quality multimedia performance and dual-view support, enabling users to work with graphics-intensive applications and to make first-class presentations.

"The fully integrated storage media comprises a 10GB, easy-to-upgrade HDD which is fitted with Acer`s new Disk Anti-Shock Protection System (DASP) to enable the system to shrug off the inevitable bumps and knocks inflicted on a mobile PC," Gore says.

Available with either a 13,3-inch or 14,1-inch active matrix XGA screen, the TravelMate 520 series is powered by a 2X AGP 3D graphics accelerator to deliver blazing fast graphics at 16,7 million colours. With additional support for video conferencing and video mail, the TravelMate 520 series can be purchased with an optional USB camera and Acer`s EasyAccess and EasyXpress software.

Acer`s TravelMate 520 series includes both 10/100 Ethernet and international 56K V.90 modem connections for high-speed, hassle-free communication with the office LAN and global Internet. An easy-to-use port replicator also available for simplified cable management at the desktop.

The TravelMate 520 also features a set of four programmable launch keys which can be set to run the Internet browser, e-mail application and any two other programs at the touch of a button.

The Acer TravelMate 520 series is ergonomically designed and features a single Li-Ion battery providing up to four hours of battery life. For the stationary user, Acer`s universal CableDock provides extra power, added convenience and lower total cost of ownership.

The 13,3-inch TravelMate 520m which comes with a mobile PIII 500 processor is expected to retail at around R18 999 while the 14-1-inch model, with its mobile PIII 600 processor, has a recommended retail price of R22 999.
