Acer Africa has launched the new Altos 11000 application server which offers the ideal high price-performance networking solution for medium-sized businesses and workgroups.
The Altos 11000 slots into the middle of Acer`s cutting-edge five-model range and complements existing servers such as the entry-level Altos 500 for small business applications and flagship Altos 21 000 for enterprise networking.
According to Brian Bogaard, general manager at Acer Africa, the Acer Altos 11 000 offers a powerful two-way processor that is both highly scaleable and easily manageable.
"With high performance and redundancy features which conserve resources, time and money this server is being billed as one of the most practical on the market today," he says.
Key features include dual capable IntelPentium II or III processors running at 500Mhz each with 512KB L2 cache for optimum performance. 100MHz Front Side Bus (FSB) technology enables greater system processing bandwidth, while system memory is upgradeable to 2GB.
Add to this powerful processing package dual-channel Ultra2 SCSI controllers with a maximum 80MBs data transfer rate, which is ideal for high-volume data storage and processing, and you have a very capable performer.
The Altos` flexible design allows for modular expansion too. Seven I/O expansion slots include five PCI and two legacy ISA slots, while four removable drive bays can handle a CD-ROM drive, floppy drive and additional devices such as a tape backup.
In addition, eight 3.5" half-height, hot-swappable hard drive bays with 80-pin SCA connectors provide 145GB of internal storage space.
Reliability and dependability of the server is further enhanced with features such as load balancing, redundant power supplies with standby options and a RAID controller with fail-over and battery back-up. In addition, a dual port 10/100Mbps network server adapter and error checking/correcting (ECC) checks whilst data is being processed.
The unit`s intelligent dual-cabinet design and cooling system also serves to enhance its all-round reliability and performance. Hot-swappable power supplies and dedicated redundant fans prevent the loss of data related to hard disks overheating
All Altos11 000 servers include industry compliant server management tools. The Acer Management Suite includes Advanced Server Manager (ASM) Pro, Web-based Server Manager (WebASM) and Remote Diagnostic Manager (RDM).
